A wonderful BBC series is being replayed in Australia from tonight - North & South. I strongly recommend it.
Based on Elizabeth Gaskell's mid-Victorian novel about the tensions between northern and southern sensiblities, it's a rollicking good story about class, loss and love, with some great characters. Oh yes, and a seriously gorgeous hero, although you might not warm to him at first.
Adapted by Sandy Welch, it's a beautifully realised retelling of the novel, perfect for an autumn evening. (ABC, Saturday, 10.55pm)
